I usually keep a million tabs opened because I am used to open a lot of tabs and after that to go thru all of them and read the content.
I have added that setting in about:config. Thanks. I didn't know about that.
Are you using Firefox3 or Firefox 2? FF2 and below had HUGE memory leaks, but FF3 seems to be better on that front. Though I think a million open tabs would do that anyway =P
Well I installed FF3 for the record thing but I saw that some of my extensions didn't work because they didn't have updates, so I switched back to FF2.
I will try FF3 again to see if the authors have updates the extensions. Aldo I really hate the "awesome url bar" or how the hell they call it.
I upgraded to FF3 and I can say that only one problem has been solved.
The browser never crashed after I upgraded. I mean never, not once.
The memory leak is still present but other that I have no problem.
And another bad thing is that I sometimes close the browser from the close button but the program still remains opened in the background using memory. The only way I can close it is by hitting ctr+alt+del and close it from there.
I don't think I can ever have a FireFox that won't use too much memory because I use 24 extensions with it. And I can't get rid of any of them because I use them all.
u can follow this trick :
1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining,
network.http.proxy.pipelining,
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
2. Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
3. Alter the entries as follows:
4. Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" by double-clicking it.
5. Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" by double-clicking it.
6. Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to 8 by double-clicking it. This means it will make 8 requests at once. There is no point setting it higher then 8 as it is capped at 8 max. [The default value for this setting is 4]
7. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
8. If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!
I already had those setting in place. Except the nglayout.initialpaint.delay which was set to 250 for some reason.
I have FasterFox installed to it tweaked my settings for me.
My huge amount of memory usage is definitely from the fact that I have a lot of plugins. But since, like I said, I can't get rid of them, I have to just wait for a version that will live in perfect symbiosis with the plugins.
just use google chrome if you want a regular surfing web.
but i love more mozilla because of their useful plugin called, firebug; only 4 website designer this plugin is useful.
If you are like me, then Firebug is one of the biggest culprits. I have found that I have to suspend Firebug in order to keep my Firefox from stammering. Like you I keep a lot of tabs going, and I have found that if I keep Firebug running and I use it, then it starts to chow down on memory.
For me, Firebug automatically runs for every site. I think it should be disabled and only work on sites you tell it.
Hey Yeah thats make Me Angry Alot,
Some times It crashes Alot,
I use Firefox Ultimate optimizer,
Google it you can find it,
it works like a charm,
Or Get Faster Fox Heard Its good,
By the You Have A Very Good Theme Loved It
When I notice FF3 responding slowly to forms and copying text, lo and behold its using ~1GB of Ram out of 2GB. The only solution albeit crappy is to close FF and restart.

Are u on a website where flash ist used very much? Maybe that's the problem.
If you want FF to free memory when it's minimized then goto about:config and set config.trim_on_minimize to true
Hope that helps

Your Dum-Dum Theme is great. Can't wait for widget support.

You could create different profiles inside Firefox.
For eg
1 Personal Profile with passwords, bookmarks and other kind of stuff that you only use for personal motives.
and a 2º profile for Work, where you`ll got the same stuff i said but only those you use to work
For create Profiles, and choose one.
On the desktop shortcut, add -p
"\Program Files\Mozzila\Firefox\Firefox.exe" -p
Kinda that

I too cannot browse without my add-ons.
