preview dum-dum wordpress theme
It's free to download, but you have to pay with a tweet :)

I started this theme almost one year ago. I started some other projects back then so this theme had to wait. But now I decided to complete it so here it is.
This is a theme in collaboration with ColorCharge. Thanks Rick.

Ooh, very nice. Are you planning to provide a link to a demo site as well as the screenshot?
03:43 on August 11th, 2008
Yes. I was too lazy last night to install another WP and add this theme :P
23:43 on August 11th, 2008
very nice!!!

Cool!!!
I was planning to put up photo gallery, now I can use WP without any hitches!

A very very good looking theme! Well done!
A couple of issues (tested with Firefox 3.0):
The About page offers no "exit" and requires the reader to mouseover the tiny white box in the middle.
Also, the text displayed when mousing over an image should ideally fit inside the white margin around the photo (currently, the top line is "sliced in half" by the background of white margin / photo)
Without installing the theme on a WP instance for myself yet – does the theme support different photo sized (wide, tall, "portrait" / "landscape" etc)?
Last question: what license is this theme released under? GPL? Creative Commons?
Thanks in advance!

Glamour Gaby,
a couple of other things to consider to make this theme absolutely perfect:
Editable text on the "Photo Info" / "Blog Info" = make them text instead of images.
Customizable background image (this might already be the case – I don't know?)
Allow for either text version of the Next/Prev buttons or at least allow IMG ALT="{title of entry}"…
Allow blog owner to set a configurable Copyright / contact statement in "Photo info" – e.g. "(C) Name, year, – If you would like to use this photo, please contact me"
Again – excellent work – looking forward to version 1.1!

- the page problem will be fixed
- please send me a print screen of the hover thing.
- the picture gets resized by a script no matter how big the image is or if its wide or not. Ideally, the photo doesn't have to bee to big in height, but it works wither way.
- license: you can do what ever you want with it. it is common sense not to try to sell it because it a free theme. other than that you can edit and change everything.
- "Photo Info" / "Blog Info" will remain images, they better that way,
- "Customizable background image": I don't think this will be added. Maybe I will do different designs for the theme, but nothing else.
- I like the navigation arrows the way they are :)
- the copyright thing will be added.

I love this theme but my blog is at wordpress.com and they won't add new themes unless it is under the GPL license. Do you know whether or not this theme is open-source or I am thankful if you know any simplified free open-source GLP-licensed low-sized high-featured photoblog theme :)
thanks guys

The theme has been added to their theme directory. I am waiting for them to activate it.

Hi Gaby..
Nice to visit your blog and use again your another theme..
I've got a problem when I made photography blog using this theme..
How can I use this theme?
How can I show the pictures/photos?
I'm very confused to use this theme…
Please help me.. :D

Just make a post in which you upload an image with the media uploader.
You don't need to insert the image code in the article.
The text that you write in the article will show on mouse hover over the image.
11:20 on October 9th, 2008
Yup, I did all same with your instruction, but still nothing..

The theme uses a php file to resize the image displayed.
That way it makes sure that no image will be wider than the width of the theme.
That file uses GD, a function built in to PHP.
Maybe you host doesn't support that or I don't know. The script works well on my host here but it seems to have a problem over to you.
22:37 on October 19th, 2008
Wow this is very neat. Do you know of a way that you could add videos in a similar fashion??
This is really awesome what you have done!!
11:49 on October 20th, 2008
This theme is not really suitable for video files.
You would need a different theme. But yes, it can be done quite easy.

What am I doing wrong? I upload a photo and even resize it before hand, but all I get is a red X where the photo should be.
I can view the page source, find the url of the image and it's there and working, but on the post it's just a red X. Is there another way that photo's are support to be uploaded? Thanks!

i used it, but my photo cannot display? why?
14:37 on January 21st, 2009
Addiehf, did you upload any images in the post? They must be upload with the wordpress media uploader.
The theme will search the database and find the uploaded image.
14:38 on January 21st, 2009
Oh, you also need to have GD activated in PHP on your host.
06:42 on February 2nd, 2009
great theme..i was wondering how you would change the theme to other colours? i would really like the background white..and can you use a thumbnail plugin or album plugins! I am desperate to get my photos up!
13:24 on February 2nd, 2009
If you need other colors for the theme then you need to change the images from the images directory and also do some css editing.
If you need something like a thumbnail gallery then you need to edit some of the theme files and that is not that easy.
22:25 on February 12th, 2009
What can I do if I want to change the text on the buttons? Are you willing to let me have the photoshop files so I can do that? I tried hand-editing the .gif and .jpg files, but it comes out looking wonky. If I can edit the text layer and then flatten, it would look a lot better.
22:38 on February 12th, 2009
RW
Here are the two images that you need:

Just add text.

hi
please help me
how use this theme?
can u send me instruction for this theme?
03:36 on June 5th, 2009
Hi Reza.
1. You install the theme.
2. You set the options from the wordpress admin panel so only one article at a time is shown
3. You upload just one image for each post with the media uploader. You don't have to put the code for the image in the post.
4. You write text in the post if you want text to be shown above the image on mouse over.
5. Done

you can publish more theme like this.

Thanks for the clean and neat theme. Is it possible to change the colour theme easily and add slideshows on the front page?
Cheers!
10:24 on February 18th, 2010
Depends on your skills of editing images and code.
The modification can be done. I can't say if it would be easy or not. Might be easy for some but hard for others.
11:11 on February 22nd, 2010
I really like this theme and have been testing it for a blog of mine.
Can thie dark shaded text area be made to fade in and out instead of just pop dark and pop away abruptly?
Everything else about this theme is so smooth, except that feature.
Thanks
12:14 on February 22nd, 2010
I made some changes to the theme. Please download the new version and check the demo to see the text slide in and out instead of just magically appear and disappear.
18:27 on February 22nd, 2010
Now THAT,… looks nice !! (thank you)
Exactly what I was looking for.
I hate to be too picky, but I noticed the first ten or so pixel lines still pop dark just before it begins the scroll down. Is that something I can adjust in the code so it smoothly scrolls from point zero? If not no worries, as it still is tons better already.
Thanks again.
02:21 on February 23rd, 2010
I know this is just a free theme, but would you be interested in working with me to complete it's functionality? I think this is perfect for my needs and looks great, but there are a couple of issues that need to be tweaked before I can take it live. The Photo Blog theme has alot of possability given where it stands now, and bringing it to completion would make it quite a showstpper in my opinion.
Let me know. Thanks.

Any known issues with this theme and a WordPress subdirectory install?
In my case the images do not render (I've uploaded it in the post. When I go directly to the image link it just echoes the path to the image without displaying it:
i.e. viewing this in my browser:
hxxp://my-domain-name.com/wp/wp-content/themes/photo-blog/img_resize.php?image=wp/uploads/2010/02/3539170706_c2a1eda40a_o1.jpg&width=700&height=1000
just displays
../../wp/uploads/2010/02/3539170706_c2a1eda40a_o1.jpg
05:16 on May 17th, 2010
Ahh….seems that the image query-string is dropping /wp-content/ from the path for some reason….
09:16 on May 17th, 2010
@ChuckMcB
The image url doesn't have to contain wp-content, that part gets added to the url in the image.php file.
The test installation of the theme is in the directory /photo-blog/ and it work without any problems.
See if you have GD enabled on your server.
04:40 on May 18th, 2010
Thanks for the reply GG. I'm afraid I didn't make myself clear (sorry..always the way) I've installed WordPress in a subdirectory using this system: http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory The files are physically in a subdirectory but WordPress treats them as if they are not.
Sometimes plugins have problems with this type of set up: they use get_bloginfo(url) rather than get_bloginfo(wpurl) and so pass the wrong path to files.
I'll keep digging and see what I come up with..
15:26 on May 18th, 2010
I think I understand now.
Then open image.php and try to set the $image_url value to match the path of your wordpress installation. Try adding another ../ and see if that works.
06:03 on May 21st, 2010
Thanks GG. Spent the last couple of days poking at it. Ended up giving up and moving the WP install into the root (it was causing other problems). Your theme's up and running perfect. Any thanks.
